Web Accessibility
The Town of Wendell is committed to making this website, its social media pages, and its external online products usable by all individuals by meeting or exceeding requirements laid out in the federally-established Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 Level AA (WCAG 2.1 AA). We strive to make our website accessible to everyone and to that end, we actively work to monitor, assess and increase the accessibility and usability of our site using available standards and guidelines. We will continue in this capacity to make sure that all content provided can be viewed and used by all visitors.
Disclaimer:
It is important to note that the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the Web Accessibility Initiative ("WCAG") change over time and efforts are always ongoing as we work to implement the relevant improvements to meet WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
Our Commitment to All:
We are committed to adhering to the accepted guidelines for accessibility and usability. If anyone has any specific questions or concerns about the accessibility of our site or needs assistance in using any part of our website, third-party partners (such as recreation sign-up, meeting agendas, online forms, permit software, etc), please direct questions or concerns to Communications at communications@townofwendellnc.gov. We are always happy to help folks access our website or social media platforms.
If you use assistive technology (such as a Braille reader, or a screen reader) and the format of any material on this website interferes with your ability to access information, please contact Communications Manager Tyler Newman at tnewman@townofwendellnc.gov. To allow us to respond in a manner that is most helpful to you, please indicate the nature of your accessibility problem, the preferred format in which to receive the material, the web address of the requested material, and your contact information.
Third Party Products:
You may notice that in some instances, we use third-party vendors to provide various types of services to the public, such as for recreation program sign-ups and permitting. The Town of Wendell does not directly control or remedy the way content is provided by other vendors and/or platforms. However, we are continually working with these vendors to increase accessibility and to identify and provide alternative sources, if available. We make an active effort to keep all vendors aware of federal accessibility requirements and how we can help them meet those guidelines, if possible.
Social Media: For individuals seeking more information, descriptive details or assistance accessing or reading past social media posts on the Town of Wendell's official platforms, contact the Communications office at communications@townofwendellnc.gov or (919) 366-6894.
As of 2026, with the planned implementation of federal accessibility standards, many new social media posts will contain images with alternative text for screen readers. If a post is missing alternative text, please reach out to Communications staff at communications@townofwendellnc.gov and we would be happy to provide alternative text for you. Please note that some alternative text descriptions may be generated using AI tools, but are fully reviewed and approved by Town staff for accuracy before release - this is to help keep workflows smooth and efficient for staff and to avoid overwhelm.
